BACKGROUND

Thomas M. Cohen specializes in the placement of debt and the procurement of equity for commercial real estate projects nationwide. Prior to becoming Senior Vice President at Slatt Capital, Cohen co-founded JC CAP, served as Senior Director of Marcus & Millichap Capital Corp., and as a Principal in the Kansas City office of Johnson Capital. Earlier in his career, Cohen was Vice President in GMACCM/Capmark’s Kansas City office.

As a 20-year veteran of the mortgage banking industry, Cohen has expertise in permanent debt financing for all types of income-producing properties, including multi-family, retail, office, industrial, hospitality, and new construction. He also specializes in structuring debt for complex transactions involving project-based Section 8 HAP contracts, tax-exempt bonds, historic tax credits, low-income housing tax credits and TIF projects. Cohen places loans with life insurance companies, conduit lenders and agency lenders, including FHA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Cohen has contributed his expertise to numerous industry panels, including those sponsored by the Crittenden Report, Midwest Real Estate News and Apartment Finance Magazine.

AFFILIATIONS

Cohen served on the Advisory Board of San Diego’s newest Community Bank, Endeavor Bank. He is also an active member of San Diego’s largest Rotary Club, Club 33. Prior to his move to San Diego, Cohen served on the board of directors of Peoples Bank, a Kansas Banking company.

EDUCATION

Thomas M. Cohen received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University in Boston, MA, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law.
