John started his career in real estate after serving in the United States Army (Vietnam 67/68) and attended college on the GI bill. He obtained his real estate license in 1970, and first began selling residential real estate while attending college. Upon graduation he worked as a commercial appraiser for Bank of America, working with many of the developers throughout the Santa Clara Valley before it was known as Silicon Valley. John joined Slatt Capital in 1980, just as the 10-year Treasury headed to its historical peak of nearly 16.5%.
John has funded hundreds of loans over his 30-plus year career in commercial mortgage banking. Working primarily through his relationships with life insurance companies, Wall Street/CMBS, and banks, he has extensive experience in structuring loans for the acquisition and refinancing of retail, office/R&D, multi-tenanted industrial/warehouse, medical, self-storage, apartments, and single tenant credit leased properties. John has successfully arranged joint venture and construction to permanent financing for numerous clients. John and his wife enjoy international travel, wilderness hiking, and walking their dog on the beach.
John is currently an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA), National Association of Industrial & Office Properties (NAIOP), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), California Mortgage Bankers Association (CMBA), and Bay Area Mortgage Association (BAMA).
John is a graduate of San Jose State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with advanced studies in Finance and Real Estate. He was also a member of Rho Epsilon, a nationally recognized real estate fraternity.
